<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an optical fiber preform with which, when a part deposited with fine glass particles is made transparent to produce an optical fiber, the whole deposition part can be made transparent and the deformation of a glass rod can be avoided while suppressing the cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method of producing an optical fiber preform includes: forming a deposition part 3 for fine glass particles 2 on a glass rod 1 to make a fine particle deposited body 4; and suspending the fine particle deposited body in a heating furnace to make the deposition part 3 transparent by heating. Before the heating, in the area 16 of the glass rod 1, where the deposition part 3 is not to be formed, the surface area is sublimated and then readhered to form a clouded part 14. Meanwhile, the glass rod 1 is deposited with fine glass particles 2 to form the deposition part 3, and, in the state where the end of the glass rod 1 is held to be suspended in the heating furnace, the deposition part 3 is made transparent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
