<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition excellent in low heat generation and wear resistance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A hydrophobic inorganic oxide is obtained by subjecting hydrophilic inorganic oxide particles such as silica to a surface treatment with a sulfide silane coupling agent, an organic silane compound (for example, an aminosilane compound) and a hydrophobizing agent (for example, a carboxylic acid compound, an alkylketene dimer and a diisocyanate compound), wherein the hydrophobic inorganic oxide has: the sulfide silane coupling agent coupled to hydroxy groups on the particle surface; and the hydrophobizing agent coupled via the organic silane compound to hydroxy groups on the particle surface.
