<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating nitrogen-containing organic wastewater which uses the UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) process using a double functional granule in which methane fermentation bacteria and denitrifying bacteria live together, and efficiently removes organic components and nitrogen components from wastewater containing the organic components and the nitrogen components. <P>SOLUTION: The method of treating nitrogen-containing organic wastewater includes a methane fermentation tank using the UASB process using the double functional granule in which the methane fermentation bacteria and the denitrifying bacteria live together and a nitrification tank installed downstream of the methane fermentation tank to carry out nitrification reaction. In the nitrification tank, the reaction is carried out under a condition that most of ammonia nitrogen in water to be treated flowing in from the methane fermentation tank is nitrified to nitrite nitrogen by the nitrification reaction by the denitrifying bacteria but nitrification to nitrate nitrogen is inhibited. A part of the water to be treated in the nitrification tank is circulated and returned to the methane fermentation tank. The nitrification reaction is carried out by controlling the quantity of aeration, water temperature and/or pH in the nitrification tank, and a circulation flow ratio is preferably in a range of 3-12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
