<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle speed control device for setting a target vehicle speed, according to the intention of a driver. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle speed control device 1 for controlling the vehicle speed of a self-vehicle, based on a target vehicle speed is provided with: a decelerating operation detecting means 12 for detecting the decelerating operation of a driver; a target vehicle speed setting means 34 for setting the target vehicle speed of the self-vehicle, based on the decelerating operation detected by the decelerating operation detection means 12; peripheral object detection means 10, 11, and 32 for detecting an object in the periphery of the self-vehicle.
