<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum brake suppressing the squeal of the brake while reducing the weight of a backing plate. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The backing plate 14 is integrally composed of an inner peripheral part 14a fixed to a vehicle body and a circular outer peripheral part 14b positioned on the outer periphery of the inner peripheral part 14a. As plate thickness of the outer peripheral part 14b is thicker than plate thickness of the inner peripheral part 14a, the backing plate 14 is raised by misalignment of a resonance mode of the backing plate 14 caused by vibration due to friction, etc., generated on sliding surfaces of a pair of brake shoes 16, 18 during braking of the drum brake 10, which suitably suppresses the squeal of the brake. As the plate thickness of the inner peripheral part 14a is thinner than the plate thickness of the outer peripheral part 14b, the backing plate 14 is reduced in weight.
