<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, enabling to establish suitable operating conditions of an exhaust processor in a short time depending on the condition of exhaust gas or the exhaust processor. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device includes an oxidation catalyst 13, a small oxidation catalyst 14 having a smaller cross section area than an engine exhaust passage, a fuel supply valve 15, a glow plug 51, and an electronic control unit. In the state that fuel is supplied by a fuel supply valve 15, the exhaust emission control device has such a first control condition that the fuel is heated by the glow plug 51 and ignited, such a second control condition that the fuel is heated by the glow plug 51 but it is not ignited, and such a third control condition that the heating by the glow plug 51 is stopped. The electronic control unit controls an operation region where the fuel can be ignited, into the first or third control condition, and controls an operation region where the fuel cannot be ignited, into the second or third control condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
