PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sufficient white balance compensation without causing color shift on the whole screen regardless of highly sensitive photographing. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element for converting the light incident from an optical system to an electric signal to output as an imaging signal; a white balance evaluation value acquiring means for extracting the evaluation value for white balance from the imaging signal; a white extracting means for conducting the white extraction on the basis of the evaluation value acquired by the white balance evaluation value acquiring means and the preliminarily set white extraction range; a compensation coefficient calculation means for calculating the compensation coefficient for white balance from the white extraction result; and an analog gain adjusting means for adjusting the analog gain depending on the brightness of the subject. A plurality of white extraction ranges in response to the analog gain are set and the white extraction range is switched in response to the analog gain adjusted by the analog gain adjusting means upon photographing.
