A method for providing an indication of an estimated cost associated with a user executable network operation, comprising the step of: determining the operating state of a user device; estimating the energy consumption associated with the execution of the network operation for one of more network components in dependence of the operating state of the user device; calculating the estimated cost based on the estimated the energy consumption; and indicating the estimated cost associated with a user executable network operation to the user.
