<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having high productivity and superior antireflection properties. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element has an antireflection function and is provided with a substrate and many structures which are arranged on the surface of the substrate, at a fine pitch which is shorter than the wavelength of visible light, and where each of which includes protrusions or recesses. Respective structures are arranged so as to make the tracks of two or more rows on the surface of the substrate and form a quasi-hexagonal lattice pattern, tetragonal lattice pattern or quasi-tetragonal lattice pattern.
