PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for a resetting process when switching from a power saving mode to a regular mode. SOLUTION: The printing apparatus that has exchangeable cartridges for corresponding ink colors has a CO register in which bit information indicating cartridge detachment is recorded for each ink color. In the resetting process from a power saving mode to a regular mode, the apparatus obtains bit information recorded in the CO register (S21). The ink color cartridge that has been detached (S24: YES) is subjected to an inspection process performed by an ink end sensor (S25).
