<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indicating instrument for a vehicle having higher reliability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pointer 20 indicates a vehicle state value with the zero value as a reference according to the rotation position, and returns to the zero position indicating the zero value by the rotation in a return-to-zero direction. A step motor M rotates and drives the pointer 20 by applying a drive signal to field windings 32, 33. A stopper mechanism S stops the pointer 20 rotating in the return-to-zero direction at the zero position. A control unit 50 controls a return-to-zero drive signal as the drive signal for rotating and driving the pointer 20 in the return-to-zero direction so that the pointer 20 is stopped by the stopper mechanism S and the step motor M is forcibly stepped out (t3 to t5), and then continues controlling the return-to-zero drive signal to an electric angle where an update condition in which the detection result of an induction voltage generated at the field windings 32, 33 is equal to or less than a set voltage is regularly established (t6). The control unit 50 updates the zero point θ0 of the electric angle corresponding to the zero position when the update condition is established, and controls the drive signal on the basis of the zero point θ.
