The present invention discloses a composition comprising a thrombolytic agent derived from an earthworm extract for treating and/or preventing diseases related to vascular blockage due to thrombosis. The composition may include suitable pharmaceutical excipients for preparation of pharmaceutical compositions including tablets, powders, capsules, granules, pellets and caplets. The invention also discloses the process for producing the earthworm extract, which includesr preparation of the earthworms by washing with aqueous alcohol, freezing, extracting, separation using filtration and/or centrifugation, concentrating the liquid extract followed by solidification and drying of the final extract.
