The device (1) has an acoustic sensor (4) for detection of a body sound signal expanding over rails (2). A signal evaluation mechanism (5) evaluates the detected body sound signal and detects a train (3) when the body sound signal exhibits rolling noise characteristic of the train. A fastening device attaches the acoustic sensor to a rail point. A warning signal output unit (7) outputs an acoustic or an optical warning signal, and solar cells (8) provide power supply to the device. A wireless interface delivers a wireless warning signal to a headphone worn by a person.
