<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system enabling to supply water to a hydrogen generating material at a supply amount favorable for operating the fuel cell system. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system comprises a hydrogen generating part 3 storing the hydrogen generating material for generating hydrogen in exothermal reaction with water, a water supply means 2 for supplying water to the hydrogen generating part 3, and a fuel cell 5 using hydrogen generated by the hydrogen generating part 3 as fuel for generating power. As a hydrogen amount detecting means for detecting the amount of hydrogen generated by the hydrogen generating part 3, there is provided at least one of a temperature detecting means 6 for detecting the temperature of the hydrogen generating part, a voltage detecting means for detecting the output voltage of the fuel cell, and a current detecting means for detecting the output current of the fuel cell.
