PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual slide browsing system matched to an assigned intrinsic necessity, by introducing an excellent linear scanning system for generating a virtual slide. SOLUTION: This system stores a virtual slide image data and corresponding information in a data storage area 50 on a virtual slide image server 30. A client viewer 70 requests the image data at a specific resolution. The image server obtains the corresponding image data from the data storage area at a resolution nearest to the requested resolution. Then the image data is transmitted to the client viewer.
