<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element package minimizing deterioration of an organic EL element by preventing entry of oxygen and water, and to provide a method for manufacturing the package. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element package 1 includes: a glass substrate 2; an organic electroluminescent element 3 formed on the glass substrate 2; an insulating material 9 covering a portion except for the contact portion of the organic electroluminescent element 3 with the glass substrate 2; a metal sheet layer 10 formed on an upper surface of the insulating material 9; and a metal sealing glass 12 that covers an upper surface of the metal sheet layer 10 and a side surface of the insulating material 9 and is formed in close contact with the outer periphery of a contact portion of the insulating material 9 with an upper surface of the glass substrate 2.
