The device has a detection unit i.e. clutch position sensor (20), for detecting an actual position of a clutch. A comparator compares the detected actual position with a desired position of the clutch to determine deviation between the desired position and the actual position. A control unit controls a warning device for delivering a warning signal, such that torque transmission provided by the clutch from a drive unit to an output unit is interrupted. A storage unit integrally formed with the comparator stores the detected actual positions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining malfunctioning of a clutch (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for determining malfunctioning of a clutch.
