PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which restrains the deterioration of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: A discharge lamp driving device is equipped with a discharge lamp lighting part that supplies electric power between two electrodes of the discharge lamp and lights the discharge lamp, by supplying alternating current to the discharge lamp; and an inter-electrode voltage detection part that detects the voltage between the electrodes, when a prescribed electric power is supplied between two electrodes and an electric power supply condition switching part in which supply of electric power by the discharge lamp lighting part is switched with a prescribed hysteresis between the first power supply conditions and the second power supply conditions that are different from the first power supply conditions based on the inter-electrode electric voltage that is detected. Respective power supply conditions can be switched, by changing at least one out of the alternating current frequency, the duty ratio of the alternating current, the frequency modulation pattern, and the modulation pattern of the duty ratio.
