PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resume to an optimum combustion control by detecting an abnormality of an ignition plug quickly. SOLUTION: A combustion control device has: a switching element Q for controlling a current flow of a primary coil L1; a control device ECU for causing the switching element Q to be ON and OFF by supplying an ignition signal SG; an ignition plug PG for electrically discharging in response to reception of an inductive voltage of a secondary coil L2; and an ion current detecting circuit ION for detecting a current value in an opposite direction to a normal electrical discharging direction of the ignition plug PG. The control device ECU has: a first means for detecting a current signal Vo outputted from the ion current detecting circuit ION when the switching element Q operates to ON (ST7 to ST11); and a second means for detecting that the ignition plug PG abnormally discharged in the opposite direction of the normal electrical discharging direction depending on whether the first means detects a second current signal, proximate to the timing of transition of the switching element to ON (ST14).
