<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having a protection structure which is capable of effectively preventing a connecting material from permeating a display element using an electronic paper, and a method for manufacturing the display device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A display device (100) includes a display element (120) using an electronic paper, a substrate (130) holding the display element, a connecting material (153) for electrically connecting an electrode (123) for driving the display element and the substrate, and a shielding member (152) for shielding the connecting material from the display element.
