<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which is advantageous in ensuring a variable magnification ratio and optical performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes: a first lens group having negative refractive power; a second lens group having positive refractive power; a third lens group having positive refractive power; and a forth lens group, these lens groups being arranged in this order from the object side. The second lens group and the third lens group move so that the intervals between the respective lens groups may vary when a magnification from a wide-angle end to a magnification end is made. The first lens group includes a negative lens component having an aspherical face and a positive lens component, these two components being arranged in this order from the object side. Further, the second lens group includes a first positive lens, a second positive lens, a negative lens and a third positive lens, these lenses being arranged in this order from the object side. The first positive lens has an object side face of convex shape on the object side, the object side face being aspherical. The third positive lens has an image side face which is aspherical.
