摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the combustion of an engine during re-starting from being destabilized by condensed water produced from a residual EGR gas while the engine is stopped. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An EGR valve 13 and a throttle valve 14 are fully opened when the stop of the engine is requested to cut a fuel into the cylinder 4 of a first bank 2, and a fuel into the cylinder 5 of a second bank 3 is cut after a predetermined delay period after the cut of the fuel into the first bank 2. During the period before the engine 1 is stopped to rotate, the air discharged from the first bank 2 under the fuel cut control flows through EGR gas flow passages such as an EGR passage 12, a shared intake passage 8, a first intake passage 6, and a second intake passage 7, and the EGR gas in the flow passages for the EGR gas is scavenged. The amount of the EGR gas which remains in the flow passages while the engine is stopped is reduced. Consequently, since the amount of the condensed water produced from the EGR gas in the flow passages when the flow passages for the EGR gas are cooled while the engine is stopped is reduced, the stability of combustion during the next start of the engine can be secured.
