PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve information retrieval on which the significance of an electronic document based on the content is reflected by using the significance of the document based on the significance of words included in the electronic document. SOLUTION: The significance of words included in each document of an electronic document group is preliminarily stored in a word significance table 5 of an information retrieval device 1. A document significance calculation means (function) 3 calculates the significance of each document of an electronic document group by using the significance of words stored in the word significance table 5. A keyword matching calculation part 71 calculates the matching of a retrieval keyword input by an information retrieval terminal 2 with the electronic document including the retrieval keyword. A comprehensive ranking calculation part 74 calculates the comprehensive ranking of the electronic document from the matching of the retrieval keywords and the document significance, and returns the retrieval result generated based on the ranking to an information retrieval terminal 2.
