The method involves measuring wading height of a wading area of a vehicle concerning a characteristic operating threshold (S) during the vehicle operation using a detector device. The values measured by the detector device are evaluated by a controlling and evaluation device (2) during exceeding of the characteristic operating threshold. Operating strategy of a start-stop-control (9) of an internal-combustion engine (7) is adjusted, such that start-stop-operation of an engine control (8) is controlled.
