PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a storage device which can increase the speed of transmission/reception of data and reliability thereof. SOLUTION: The storage device has: a plurality of expanders connected to a disk device storing data transmitted from a host device; and a controller controlling the expanders. The controller has: a decision part deciding whether or not it is necessary to initialize the expander after the expander downloads download data when receiving the download data for updating firmware of the expander from a prescribed terminal; a transmission part transmitting initialization decision information decided by the decision part to the terminal; and an update instruction part transmitting the download data to the corresponding expander in timing to update the firmware determined by the terminal based on the initialization decision information transmitted by the transmission part, and instructing the corresponding expander about the upload of the firmware.
