<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an excessive revolution speed of an engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a manual shift mode is selected, an automatic transmission is controlled so as to automatically perform an up shift operation in accordance with an automatic up line in which a vehicle speed and acceleration are defined as parameters. When done so, the larger the variation in acceleration opening degree, the automatic up line is corrected so that a vehicle speed to which an automatic transmission should be shifted up becomes lower.
