PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which achieves miniaturization of an energy storage device and prolongation of the lifetime of the energy storage device. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus measures a discharge amount discharged from a lithium ion battery 3 to a fixing heater 6 in order to fix an image formed on recording material, balances the lithium ion battery 3 by a balance circuit 4 after the discharge, measures a charge amount of the lithium ion battery 3 after the discharge, arithmetically calculates a difference between a reference charge amount and the measured charge amount, arithmetically calculates electric energy with which the lithium ion battery is charged on the basis of the difference and the discharge amount, and charges the lithium ion battery 3 with the electric energy by a charge control circuit 5.
