<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic apparatus that can reflect user's will. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The portable electronic apparatus includes: a display unit 21; a key operation unit 11 including a plurality of input keys to which characters and numerals are allocated and other keys to which the characters and the numerals are not allocated but predetermined functions are allocated; and a control unit 45 which, when one of the input keys is operated while an initial screen 100 is displayed on the display unit 21, makes the display unit 21 display the character and the numeral allocated to the input key. When the other key is operated while the character and the numeral are displayed on the display unit 21, the control unit 45 continues the display of one of the character and the numeral and cancels the display of the other, and maintains a display position for the display of the one at a display position before the operation of the other key.
