<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the attitude of a workpiece 3 more accurately in a work transferring device such as a lathe. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a workpiece transferring device 1 to be installed in the machine tool, a controller moves a spindle 9 serving as a workpiece receiving part 4 and makes the spindle 9 receive a small diameter part 20 of the workpiece 3 protruding from a passage 19. Before the small diameter 20 is received by the spindle 9, the controller makes the forefront of the portion 20 abut on a chuck 14 and makes the workpiece 3 partially retreat to the passage 19. The workpiece 3 retreats to the passage 19 thereby to release the engagement state with a workpiece delivery part 5, and as a result the misalignment of the attitude is corrected. In such a state that the misalignment is corrected, the workpiece 3 is delivered from the work delivery part 5 to the spindle 9, and the attitude of the workpiece 3 is maintained more accurately.
