<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounted type piezoelectric oscillator with high reliability in which a mechanical strength is maintained while reducing the size and height thereof and a method for measuring a performance thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surface mounted type piezoelectric oscillator includes an insulating base 1 made of a ceramic multilayer substrate housing a piezoelectric vibration element 3 and an integrated circuit element 2 and a lid 4 for hermetic sealing, wherein the base has a sidewall portion and a housing portion and a metallized wiring connected to each element and a terminal electrode are formed. It also includes at least a pair of metallized wirings 15a and 15b for measurement of the piezoelectric vibration element connected to an excitation electrode of the piezoelectric vibration element and terminals 16a and 16b for measurement of the piezoelectric vibration element. The terminal for measurement of the piezoelectric vibration element is formed in a way that a thick part of the metallized wiring for measurement of the piezoelectric vibration element is exposed at a vertical center part of the sidewall portion of the base without castellation.
