Improvements in current rectifier assembly

In an assembly of rectifier cells, the separating contact members consist of cup-shaped metallic members 51 open at one end and closed but with an annular ridge at the other end. The arrangement facilitates cooling. The members 51 are in the form of truncated cones open at the top to form a rim 61 and recessed towards the centre at the base to form a ridge 71 at the edge. There is also a small central hole in the base. The radius of the rim is equal to the medial radius of the ridge. In use the ridge is placed in contact with the counter electrode of a selenium rectifier and a small hollow insulating collar 13 is pushed through a hole in the rectifier and member 51 the external diameter of the collar being such that the spacing element 51 is held in place. These cells may be assembled in a stack by threading them on to a bolt 16. Contacts 19 and 23 may be made by threading a suitable flat plate on to the bolt between the rim of element 51 and the baseplate of the adjacent rectifier. If it is desired to reverse one of the cells and to make a connection at the intersection of counter electrodes, a plate such as 21 with one annular depression is threaded on to the bolt so that the rim of an adjacent member 51 fits into the recession formed and the ridge on the plate contacts the counter electrode of the adjacent rectifier. An arrangement forming a full-wave rectifier is mentioned. The assembled stack may be encapsuled in a potting resin.
