With conventional diopsimeters, it is impossible to appropriately and quickly select and determine a scanning area which is scanned by using a visual target. A device for aiding the selection of a visual field scanning area comprises: a means for creating a screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for setting a first background color of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for setting a second background color of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for controlling the alternate displaying of the background colors of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for setting a display time of the first background color of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for setting a display time of the second background color of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for controlling the displaying of a fixation target of the screen for selecting and determining a scanning area; a means for receiving an instruction for the scanning area selection; a means for receiving an instruction for the scanning area determination; and a means for storing the rectangular coordinates of the scanning area. The device therefore can aid the appropriate and quick selection of the scanning area which is scanned by using the visual target.
