PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a harmful insect controlling composition having excellent efficacy of controlling harmful insects, particularly dipterous harmful insects. SOLUTION: The harmful insect controlling composition includes [a] (5-benzyl-3-furyl)methyl=2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-methyl-1-propenyl)cyclopropane carboxylate, and [b] an ester compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SP>a</SP>is hydrogen or a methyl group; and R<SP>b</SP>is a methyl group or a methoxymethyl group) at a mass ratio of [a]:[b] of 50:1 to 1:50.
