The arm rest (10) has a rigid retaining section (30) attached to a vehicle-sided fastening device, and a pad section (20) made of foamed pad material. A rigid function module (50) and the retaining section are indirectly connected with each other by the pad section, where the function module is formed as a fixing frame for coupling a mounting module. The function module is secured against pulling by a through hole and a locking section. The function module is moved opposite to the retaining section in a direction of a vehicle longitudinal axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an arm rest.
