<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commercially efficient method for producing an ester or lactone from the corresponding secondary alcohol in a simple operation with high selectivity. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing an ester or lactone corresponding to a secondary alcohol represented by the formula: [R<SP>a</SP>-CH(OH)-R<SP>b</SP>] (wherein R<SP>a</SP>and R<SP>b</SP>are each an organic group having a carbon atom at a position binding to the adjacent carbon atom and may bind to each other to form a ring together with the adjacent carbon atom) comprises a step of oxidizing the secondary alcohol with molecular oxygen in the presence of a nitrogen-containing cyclic compound containing a skeleton represented by formula (I) [wherein X is an oxygen atom or an -OR group (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a protective group of a hydroxy group)] as a component of the ring, halogen-free sulfonic acid and halogen-containing phenol. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
