PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode which does not require the high voltage trial period in an early stage used in electrolysis of halogen-containing aqueous solution. SOLUTION: The electrode has a catalyst-coated electrode which composed of a mixture (a) of transition metal oxides comprising one or more oxides of palladium, rhodium and cobalt and a mixture (b) of platinum group metal oxide and valve metal oxide, on an electrode base material which is made of a valve metal such as titanium and has a shape of mesh, sheet or the like.
