PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a harmful insect controlling composition having excellent efficacy of controlling harmful insects, particularly dipterous harmful insects. SOLUTION: The harmful insect controlling composition includes [a] 1-ethynyl-2-methylpent-2-enyl=2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-methylprop-1-enyl)cyclopropane carboxylate, and [b] at least one kind selected from (2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-(methoxymethyl)phenyl)methyl=2,2-dimethyl-3-(1-propenyl)cyclopropane carboxylate and (2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-methylphenyl)methyl=2,2-dimethyl-3-(1-propenyl)cyclopropane carboxylate at a mass ratio of [a]:[b] of 50:1 to 1:50.
