PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device such as a CMOS image sensor capable of saving power, its signal conversion method and a camera. SOLUTION: The image pickup device 1 has: a plurality of pixel circuits 11 arranged like a matrix; and a conversion part 13 which converts an analog signal read from each pixel circuit 11 into a digital signal. The conversion part 13 converts a difference signal between an analog signal read from a target pixel circuit 11 and an analog signal read from a pixel circuit which is different from the target pixel circuit 11 into the digital signal.
