<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily listen to received voice with small amount of processing, especially under such an environment as people's voices are contained as a noise source. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A band pass filter 61 extracts the signal component in the band of human voice from a voice signal which is inputted from a microphone 22 during speech communication. A mute circuit 63 and a mute control circuit 64 extracts the steady signal component from the signal component in the band of human voice, i.e. the signal component of the voice of others around the speaker excepting the voice of the speaker during speech communication. Output from the mute circuit 63 becomes the control signal of an auto level controller 49 through a comparator 66. The auto level controller 49 controls the I/O characteristics of a received voice signal by a control signal which is composed of the signal component of the voice of others. More specifically, the I/O characteristics are controlled in such a manner that the output level increases for the input level as the environmental noise caused by the voice of others increases.
