PURPOSE: In a DHCP packet processing method for the network overhead reduction in the IP assignment it dynamics and apparatus thereof is the L2 switch, the DHCP request broadcast packet and dynamic host configuration protocol acknowledge broadcast packet are transmitted to the respective corresponding DHCP server and corresponding dynamic host configuration protocol client. In that way the load of the network whole is reduced. CONSTITUTION: An L2 switch receives a message the DHCP broadcast packet(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)(S110). An L2 switch varies the DHCP broadcast packet into the unicast packet(S120). In case the DHCP broadcast packet is the DHCP request message, the L2 switch transmits the DHCP broadcast packet with the corresponding DHCP server. In case the DHCP broadcast packet is the DHCP response message, the L2 switch transmits the DHCP broadcast packet with the corresponding dynamic host configuration protocol client(S130).
