PURPOSE: A recording/playback apparatus is provided to improve the reliability by executing phase modulation based on a pixel unit according to a first or n-th phase modulation degree. CONSTITUTION: A reference light which has identical phase pattern with a thing which is applied in a write timing is radiated to a hologram record media(10). Diffraction light is obtained as a reproducing light. The reproducing light is transmitted from the hologram media to a recording/playback device. The reproducing light is radiated to a polarization beam splitter(4) after passing through an object lens(9), a quarter wavelength plate(8), and a relay lens(7A). The reproducing light radiated to the polarization beam splitter is radiated to an image sensor(11).
