Disclosed is a power-operated surgical saw for cutting bone in orthopaedic surgery. It comprises a handle 2 and a saw blade 3 with saw teeth, said saw blade 3 being movably mounted in the handle 2 so as to project from a forward end of the handle 2. It also comprises a drive mechanism located with the handle for moving the saw blade 3 for cutting bone during the operation. A retractable support member 51a, 51b extends from the handle 2 and has an aperture, through which the saw blade 3 passes. The drive mechanism may move the saw blade 3 in an orbital motion, causing the saw teeth to move in an orbital path. The saw blade 3 may have at least two rows of mutually aligned first saw teeth, each having a tip that together with the other tips define a cutting line and at least one second saw tooth. The at least one second saw tooth is located between adjacent mutually aligned rows of first saw teeth and has a tip that projects further from the saw blade 3 than the cutting lines of adjacent rows of first saw teeth. |
