A pitched roof structure comprises a truncated region 108 extending between opposing inclined roof surfaces 104, 106, wherein a horizontal axis, propeller type, wind turbine 112 is supported by a stanchion 118 at the truncated region 108. The truncated region 108 may be continuous along the length of the pitched roof structure and may include a curved or convex upper surface 110. Photovoltaic solar cells may be provided on the truncated region 108. The plane of rotation of the turbine rotor may be inclined to face down an inclined surface 104 of the roof, the angle of inclination being variable. The wind turbine 112 may be rotated about a generally vertical axis to face into a prevailing wind direction. A method is also provided for modifying a pitched roof structure to provide a truncated region for supporting a wind turbine 112 of the invention. |
