A steel wire which exhibits excellent workability in stranding is provided with high productivity in a high yield at a low cost by using, as the raw material, a steel wire rod which exhibits excellent workability in wiredrawing. The steel wire rod to be used as the raw material is a high-strength wire rod which has excellent ductility and which contains C: 0.80 to 1.20%, Si: 0.1 to 1.5%, Mn: 0.1 to 1.0%, Al: 0.01% or less, Ti: 0.01% or less, either or both of W: 0.005 to 0.2% and Mo: 0.003 to 0.2%, N: 10 to 30ppm, B: 4 to 30ppm (including 3ppm or above of solid-soluted B), O: 10 to 40ppm with the balance being Fe and impurities and comprises 97% or above (in terms of area fraction) pearlite structure and the balance non-pearlite structure with the total area fraction of the non-pearlite structure and coarse pearlite structure being 15% or below. A high-carbon steel wire which has excellent ductility and a tensile strength of 3600MPa or above and in which the density of voids 5μm or above in length in the central part is 100 voids/mmor below is obtained by wiredrawing the wire rod. |
