The viscometer (10) has a hollow cylinder (1) filled with sample fluid (8) and a measuring cylinder (2) arranged inside the hollow cylinder. A rotational element (3) is arranged along a central axis (11) inside a hollow cylinder and at a distance from front faces (21) of the measuring cylinder. The rotational element is arranged around the central axis. The inner diameter of the hollow cylinder is larger than the outer diameter of the measuring cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining the viscosity of a sample fluid.
