PURPOSE: A method of reducing nitric oxide of exhaust gas to nitrogen and a catalyst system used in thereof are provided to improve nitric oxide change efficiency at the wide range of the temperature, and to prevent an additional danger of an ammonia emission to the atmosphere when using ammonia as a reductant. CONSTITUTION: A method of reducing nitric oxide of exhaust gas to nitrogen comprises a step of passing through the exhaust gas to a catalyst system including more than two catalyst bed under the presence of an oxygen-containing organic reductant. A first catalyst bed contains alumina only, and a second catalyst bed in the lower side contains indium supported on the alumina. The oxygen-containing organic reductant us selected from the group consisting of ether, ester, alcohol, ketone and their combination. The second catalyst bed includes a third catalyst bed contains platinum supported on the alumina.
