PURPOSE: A digital camera capable of setting variation of a frame rate and a control method thereof are provided to improve quality of images by changing the frame rate with motion speed of a subject, and to reduce data capacity of an image file. CONSTITUTION: An image pickup device(120) outputs an image frame based on photographing images. The image frame is continued on time. A digital signal processor determines a frame rate. The image frame is filed on the frame rate. The digital signal processor variably determines the frame rates with motion speed among frames preceding or following on time. A recording medium(170) stores the image frame.
