<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer that can allow a user to understand outlines of a plurality of files within a predetermined time period. <P>SOLUTION: The printer specifies a generation time period which can be used for rasterizing of each target data for index printing (S205). When a time period that has elapsed for rasterizing reaches the generation time period during the rasterizing of each target data, the rasterizing is finished and rasterizing of another target data of which the rasterizing is not yet performed is started.
