<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device, the number of components of which can be reduced than in the prior art. <P>SOLUTION: An auto-focus camera 10 includes a moving section 13c for moving a focus lens 11, a protrusion 14 and a machine end 15, a microcomputer 24, and a counter 28. The microcomputer 24 has a movement control mode for moving the moving section 13c and an initialization mode to be executed before the movement control mode, as operation modes. In the initialization mode, the machine end is moved by moving the moving section 13c so that the protrusion 14 may abut against any position of the machine end 15 to set the counter 28 to a predetermined value. Thereafter, the moving direction is reversed and the moving section 13c is moved at a predetermined power supply time to reach a position which is used as the origin for the movement control mode.
