PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and highly efficiently adjust an AC voltage applied for image formation without degrading user's convenience and productivity of an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor drum 9; a developing roller 81 disposed opposing the photoreceptor drum 9 with a gap between them and connected to an AC voltage application part 86; a plurality of image forming sections 3; a storage section 12 for storing data; a detecting section 14 for detecting discharge between the developing roller 81 and the photoreceptor drum 9; and a control section 10 for controlling each device and recognizing discharge when receiving an output from the detecting section 14. The control section 10 exerts control such that it checks presence or absence of discharge by changing an AC voltage applied to the developing roller 81 at a predetermined timing, adjusts the AC voltage applied to the developing roller 81, and adjusts only the one image forming section 3 in one adjustment.
